Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi Chuan, also transliterated as Taijiquan, is often shortened to Tai Chi, for convenience.

Tai Chi is a type of martial art well known for its health benefits, and as an effective means of alleviating stress and anxiety. Tai Chi can be a form of meditation in motion, which promotes serenity and inner peace. Medical research has found that practicing Tai Chi is helpful in improving one’s balance, breathing, physical and psychological health.

Tai Chi Chuan learning options

The WuDang Taijiquan syllabus of the  Practical Tai Chi Chuan Iinternational  association,
offers a complete system of traditional Tai Chi Chuan,
with hand form, pushing hands, applications, weapons and more.

Our 123 Tai Chi for Health, and Adapted Tai Chi options,
offer enjoyable, safe, and ability appropriate exercise and relaxation for their participants.

“To practice Tai Chi Chuan is a deliberate decision to employ conscious awareness
of how we stand, move, breathe and respond”

If you have a long term illness or recurring health problem, you may find that one of our Qigong programs are more suitable for your need. If you are in good health but not fantastically fit (or willing to become so) you may find the 123 Tai Chi for Health classes suits you.

Tai Chi Chuan is based upon the Daoist philosophical principle of Tai Chi.  As such it reflects Yin and Yang in its practice, that is active and passive phases. Some of what we do is slow, some fast, some gentle, some less so.  Tai Chi is characterised by smooth, coordinated, flowing movements that should be beautiful to observe.
