 Healthy, Active Life, Tai Chi...

This is ideal for anybody who wishes to improve or maintain health and fitness as part of leading a full and active life, regardless of age.
This enjoyable and sociable program accepts people with a wide range of fitness due to its low entry level. We have so much fun that one barely notices how hard we are working.
In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that there is a flow of energy, or Qi (pronounced Ch)i, around the body. This energy flows in a number of meridians, and only when this flow is unimpeded will the person be well. There are many ways of correcting the flow of energy, probably the best known is acupuncture.  with tai chi chuan and qigong you can learn to improve and maintain the flow of Qi for better health.

Healthy, Active Life, Tai Chi Syllabus

Level 1

We start with the simple movement exercises, (Tai Chi as Qigong) these gently warm up the muscles and "energise" the body, boost circulation and develop balance. In addition they will introduce you to some of the key concepts of Tai Chi, in provide a good grounding in:
  1. Main stances (Forward, Backward, Central)
  2. Controlled stepping with balance, control, and weight separation
  3. Good body alignment, co-ordination, and improved concentration
  4. Standing meditation for relaxation, and to promote tranquillity and awareness

Level 2

The Square Short Hand Form: 34 techniques with a focus on the concept of correct structure.  We learn the principles of weight separation, control of the body, alignment, and concentration. In this element you will learn the complete 34 step Square Hand Form, as a precursor to the 34 step Round Hand Form in Level 3 and above.
Seven star step: Partner exercises (can be performed solo) challeneg and educate your ability to maintain structure and balance whilst moving.

Level 3

The Round Short Hand Form: 34 techniques with a focus on coordinating breathing and movement.  We develop the ability to flow from one coordinated movement to the next, whilst maintaining structural integrity. This also enhances calmness and creativity.
Nine Palace Step: taking partner exercises to a new level, teaching greater skill in avoidance and mobility

Level 4

The Round Long Hand Form: Wudang Tai Chi Chuan Hand Form is known for it’s graceful, slow and vigilant movements that almost resembles a classic dance,  in slow motion. The movements are effective Self Defence techniques executed in a natural flow, like the water streaming through the river. The Wudang Tai Chi Chuan Hand Form is constructed from Self Defence techniques and not the other way around. Observed closely, one may note that the Hand Form techniques constantly shift between defensive and offensive.
Ding Shi- Holding form: Where the body is held still, and the energy allowed to flow,  where the movements of the body in the standard hand and weapon forms, or partner practises stimulate the energy flow and circulation, Ding Shi, involves holding key postures for a few breaths to allow the energy to balance and the body to relax into natural alignment.
