Every advert  is telling us haw difficult life is in 'these unusual times'  judging by the proliferation of digital, instead of physical and emotional interaction, and the frequent advice that its ‘ok to not be ok’ everyone  should probably consider an ideal antidote thats been around for millenia. Taoist Meditation practices are  suffused with profound naturalist wisdom from the ancients.  Suitable for all ages and fitness levels there are many accessible options, yet they can be simpler and easier to do than many better known methods of meditation so you get quick results once practice begins.

What is meditation
Meditation, sometimes referred to as mindfulness, is a means of altering our state of being to better enjoy and appreciate living. Atnone time meditation techniques were a common place aspect of most peoples daily life, as in one of its simpler forms, expressing gratitude, or even appreciating that there is a power greater than ourselves, was achieved through prayer. As societies all over the world become more secular, these simple and accessible versions of meditation have become less widespread. Instead people are more familiar with modern techniques such as Transcendental Meditation (TM) or Eastern methods such as Zen, both of which have had their techniques watered down and spread through popular culture and media..Because some of the better known meditation techniques appear difficult or esoteric, especially when attempted with a half column of magazine guidance, many people have been left with the idea that meditation and mindfulness is difficult, or that they have no aptitude for it; When in fact, they have simply had poor instruction tried it, and missed out on what could be a simple and enjoyable way to reduce anxiety and feel good.

Still need convincing?  Here are some of the benefits of mindfulness practice.

Proven Benefits of Meditation

  • boosts the immune system
  • decreases inflammation
  • decreases stress
  • helps with social connections
  • enhances brain function
  • supports focus and attention
  • improves memory
  • decreases anxiety
  • supports emotional intelligence
  • ignites creativity
1. Pain reduction
We have all experienced physical pain, even if fleeting  for those who experience chronic pain the effects can be devastating.. The  perception of pain is something we can change with the practice of mindfulness techniques.  Currently, there are several studies that relate a reported decrease in pain sensation with meditation.
According to a 2011 study published in JNeurosci (The Journal of Neuroscience), mindfulness meditation can reduce the perception of pain by half.

2. Reduction of stress and anxiety
The number of people I meet who are in a 'Sympathetic Dominant State'  frequently baffles me. Constantly thinking about negative things or worrying, causes stress and anxiety. This causes confusion, pain, and may lead to many chronic conditions. Just imagine if with the incorporation of new habits into their life, so many suffering people could be helped
A  study published in the journal PLOS ONE found  stress could be reduced by up to 14% with the use of mindfulness techniques.
