About the
Golden Rooster School,

Our Mission

At the Golden Rooster School we agree with the World Health Organisations Statement "The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being". We believe that the practice of Nei Jia (soft martial arts uch as tai chi and qigong), can enable people to directly influence their physical and mental health. for the better. To this end we provide public and private learning opportunities on how to include nei jia practice in their life

What we do:

We support the establishment of local clubs, and community groups,  train volunteers and teachers. We offer personal and group courses, and provide a variety of learning materials both free and paid, locally and online.

Background

The Golden Rooster School serves as a healthcare education service. It is focussed on  teaching Chinese Internal Arts (Nei Jia) the best known of which are tai chi and Qigong, to support improved mental and physical well-being.   We  offer a community outreach programs as part of our activities. We believe that teaching Tai Chi and Qigong in community settings and supporting the growth of community clubs, places a significant element of self management of personal and community health, directly in the hands of community members.
The Golden Rooster School was established by Keith Roost and Gloria Dean in 2004 as the Golden Rooster Institute, to provide Tai Chi Chuan and Daoist Qigong to the residents of Coimbra in Portugal, in conjunction with local health and education providers such as Casa de Pessoal do Univercidade dos Hospitais de Coimbra (University Hospitals of Coimbra)  various local 'Casa de Saude' (Health Centres) and The Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra ( a state-run  school of agriculture)  part of the Coimbra Polytechnical Institute.

Relocation to Norwich in  England  was followed by changing the designation from "Institute' to school in 2011., the classes and clubs set up in Coimbra have continued to thrive and expand under teachers and students trained by Keith and Gloria, supported by regular visits from senior teachers from Practical Tai Chi Chuan international.
The school provides private and public classes, workshops and seminars in Tai Chi Chuan and QiGong (pronounced Chi kung) to Individuals, groups,  and organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors:  The school is accustomed to working towards goals commensurate with the European Social Fund and Rural Development strategies, and actively promotes a healthy lifestyle and community participation through its own outreach sessions locally and internationally.
We are happy to provide workshops, seminars and taster sessions,  please contact us to discuss your requirements.
